Aaron Shepherd - Eagle Scout

The Lonesome Pine District conducted an Eagle Scout Board of Review tonight at the First Presbyterian Church in Pikeville, KY. Garland Arnett, Jr., Lt. Col. (retired) David Zoellers, and I had the opportunity to question and review Life Scout, Aaron Shepherd.

Aaron has been with me since we started in Cub Scouts together. He is like my adopted son. I was extremely honored to be on his Eagle Board. We were shocked however, when we asked him for the secret Troop 12 rib sauce, and he actually handed it over! We got the real shock when we opened the envelope and found the "Recipe for Scouting". Good one Big A!!

After what seemed like an eternity to Aaron, we deliberated and found him worthy of Scouting's highest honor.

Truly a fine example of the B.S.A.'s best. I expect even greater things from this one.

He has learned leadership and service and practices them in his every day life extremely well. Watch out.

Scout's Honor!

Aaron is the 10th Eagle Scout from Troop 12, since we started back in 2004.

Kawida Kookin'

The first official Kawida Lodge Cookbook is done!

A BIG Scout Salute to Juanita Hogg for her great dedication to this "irksome task and weighty responsibility".

Available at the Winter Banquet for only $10. 125 pages of good Kawida recipes would make a fine Christmas present!

Dirty Jobs

I recently found out that Mike Rowe, host of the Discovery Channel's "Dirty Jobs" show is an Eagle Scout.

I've always enjoyed his show and how he gets into so much trouble, and his attitude towards the job. Good Scout Spirit!

Check his BLOG about Eagle Scouts at:

http://blogs.discovery.com/mike_rowe_answers/2008/11/mike-offers-a-p.html

Mike has written the letter from his blog and will personalize and sign it for any Eagle Scout out there who requests it. All you have to do is mail a self-addressed, stamped envelope to: Eagle Scout Letter, Pilgrim Films and Television, 6180 Laurel Canyon Blvd., #350, No. Hollywood, CA 91606. Please allow 12+ weeks for Mike to fill it out, sign it and get it in the mail to you. And folks - this is an offer, a nice thing, a volunteer deal Mike wants to do for you - please don't complain if it takes a while to get to you, OK? It'll get handled as quickly as possible.

Kawida LLD 2008

A crowd of around 45 Arrowmen came together to learn to be better.

Even the old can learn from the new.

However, the new learn very slowly!

Regalia break with an Ale 8. Hey that rhymes!

Our Staff Adviser, Bill Montgomery, in this year's LLD Staff T-shirt, certainly makes the letter "D", really stand out for development!

A Big Scout Salute to Lodge Leadership Development Chairman, Aaron Shepherd and his Adviser, Cody Todd and the entire LLD Staff, for making today one of the biggest and best Kawida Lodge LLD trainings ever!

Growth

Growing up on a farm, the one thing that you learn, is that good healthy growth is a wonderful thing.

We had 22 youth present tonight at the Troop and Crew meetings. 1 new Boy Scout and 1 new female Venture Scout. That is a record to date.

Things are looking good in the "field of Scouting" for all of the members who meet weekly at the First Presbyterian Church on Tuesday night.

Harvest time in about 10 years, I figure.

New PMT Signs

Don Combs dropped off a couple of heavy duty, really nice, engraved, and painted marble signs for the Pioneer Mountain Trail at Camp McKee. He got the marble slabs donated, thanks to Tim Brown, and had the engraving done for free.

2 nice additions for a great place to hike!
