National Prominence

Kawida Lodge is definitely having some national prominence in the Order of the Arrow this week.

First, obviously is Don's election to the Southern Region Chief. He is the first youth member to serve as a National Officer from Kawida.

Second, is the current O.A. "National Bulletin" which has an article on High Adventure authored by our 2010 Lodge Chief, Aaron Shepherd.

Third, is the little "EXTRA OA-BSA News Article" logo on the front page of the National O.A. website which was done by Alex Hill.

Good job guys!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

2009 has been a wonderful year. We have all been truly blessed!

Best wishes to Aaron and Devin as they travel to Sea Base next week for the Coral Reef Adventure. (I wish I was going!!)

Good luck to Don as he travels to Texas for the National O.A. Planning meeting. (My fingers are crossed!!)

May the 100th year of the Boy Scouts of America be the best for everyone!

Court of Honor 2009

Troop and Crew 12 held a nice Court of Honor tonight. Several Rank advancements, Merit Badges, Religious awards, and Venturing Silver Awards. What a wonderful time of the year to celebrate achievements and all the hard work done by so many good Scouts.

7 Brides for 7 Brothers

The title should read: "Troop and Crew 12 present winter musical".

Virtually all of Venture Crew 12 and several Troop 12 members are starring and supporting this year's show.

Come if you can!

It is worth $5.00 just to see Viet with red hair!!

Bunch O' Patches

I had the fine opportunity to meet this 2nd Class Scout from the Mountain Laurel District, who was a guest at our Winter Banquet over the weekend. Very nice young man, who has ambitions of becoming an Order of the Arrow member, in the near future.

He has got a good start on the patch collecting side of it!

Winter Banquet 2009

Today was a busy day that began with Camp Kick Off.

Traditional lunch at Kathy's in Clay City.

The 2010 National Jamboree patch was unveiled.

Decorations go up quickly.

Camp Staff getting ready for their interviews.

They came in great numbers this year.

Some came a long way.
Dan Higham, our National OA Vice Chief, flew down from New York.

Getting ready to rumble.

Kawida 2010 Lodge Officers.

Tomahaken Brothers, Alex, Tom, and Doug were selected as Vigil Candidates.

Another great year for Kawida Lodge!

Let's Do It Again in 2010!

Nights Camping

Aaron Shepherd recently accumulated enough Scout Nights of Camping
to earn the coveted "250 Award".
He is the first in Troop 12 and hopefully not the last.

1/2 way there to this one!

This is the BIG one that you rarely see!

NLS & NLATS

Kawida Lodge was well represented at the National Leadership Seminar and National Lodge Adviser Training Seminar over the weekend in Covington, GA.

Don cheerfully serving his brothers.
(However, the rubber gloves scare me?)

We all learned a lot and will continue to serve our Lodge well.
Thanks for sending us!

Hornaday Badge

Tonight at Roundtable, we got to present Ricky Music with a well deserved Conservation Award for all of his years with the Jenny Wiley Lake Clean Up.

The William T. Hornaday award has several different levels that youth, adults, and units can be awarded.

Old NLS

Yes, I attended a NLS way back in 1980.

As a member of Zit-Kala-Sha, down at UT in Knoxville.

Ben there, done that, got that patch!

Kawida Lodge was well represented at the SR 6 Section Leadership Seminar at Camp Boxwell over the weekend.

Anderson's Department Store

Anderson's Department Store in Pikeville is officially out of the Boy Scout Supply business. It seems that our little local Scout store wasn't selling enough volume to warrant distributorship with the BSA.

Mr. Anderson was a Boy Scout and was a POW in WW II. He had been selling Scout uniforms and such for a very long time.

Truly an end of a great era.

Fall Camporee 2009

You know you are learning something new, when everyone is watching you closely.

Fire and knives are all part of Scouting.

Learning to raise the flag properly.

White Water rafting on the Russell Fork River is fun.

This is the first District Camporee, in a long time, that we did some cool high adventure.

Everyone got wet and Glen grew some wild hair?

The Saturday night camp fire is always the best!

LNT Trainer

Two new youth leadership opportunities lie ahead next year. The first was the Troop Webmaster. Now the Troop Leave No Trace Trainer emblem is available.

I'm not sure on what the training requirements and position responsibilities will be on this new job.

Nice looking badge of office though!

Shawnee Neckerchief

I picked up this old neckerchief this week. A nice piece of history from our area. I really miss event neckerchiefs and trail medals. Maybe we can get back to those in the next 100 years?
