Dot G.

Hey, if you check out this month's issue of Scouting Magazine, there is a great article about Dot G.

She and her husband, Keith are from Evansville. I had the great opportunity to attend Keith's Powder Horn, along with Dot and also at Sea Badge CR - 5.

Wonderful article on a great Scouter!

NJ Staff

Baby Goff and I received an email from National yesterday, confirming acceptance of Staff positions for the 2010 National Jamboree at Ft. A. P. Hill.

We will be working with the Venturing Division and Exhibits.

Cost for youth Staff members (16 - 25) is bargain priced at only $397.50. For us older folks, it is a fair price of $795.00.

Last Jamboree at A.P. Hill and it is going to be a good one!

Tomahaken White Water

A few members of the Tomahaken Chapter decided to do a little White Water Rafting on the Russell Fork River after the Service Project on Saturday. Several got wet.

It looks like from this photo, that Brother Glen Felty "got scared on a couple of rapids"?

Only in the hills!

NOAC 2009

If you got to http://www.event.oa-bsa.org/events/n2009/media_promovid.htm the new NOAC Promo 2009 video is available.

Look close and fast. I saw 1 shot of the 2006 Kawida Contingent and 2 quick shots of Will Hogg carrying the big Kawida flap sign.

I've been to a lot of places and done many of things, but NOAC is the best bang for the buck so far!

Heroes

The other night at the Webelos Cross Over, I had the grand opportunity to visit with a couple of my heroes. Jim Goss, an old Scoutmaster of Troop 12 at the old First Presbyterian Church was there. He was very active in the 1970's. He mentioned the 3 weekend hike down in Tennessee, where they hiked 150 miles.

Ray Bartley ( in the '85 NJ shirt ) was also there. He was legendary back in the 1980's with Troop 10 from the Pikeville Methodist Church. Those guys went every where all of the time. Big number of Eagle Scouts from Ray's leadership.

Both of these old Pikeville Scouters were at the Pack 12 meeting, because they both have grandsons who are Wolf Scouts.

When I grow up I want to be like them!

By the way, I Photo Shopped us all in the woods. It only seemed right.

Ecology

Jayson Plaxico, a wildlife biologist with the Kentucky Black Bear Program, visited Venture Crew 12 tonight. We learned about ecology, plants, wildlife, pollution, and conservation around the Bob Amos Park in Pikeville.

He gave the Crew a very nice video about black bears in KY that we viewed.

We are so lucky to be in this state and have professionals that want to educate everyone about the outdoors.

Use your resources!

Webelos Cross Over

7 new opportunities to change the world.

Welcome to Troop 12 guys!

Small World

"Over the week end, over half-a-million of you have gathered on the air, during the 51st JOTA, and via the Internet for the 12th JOTI. Once again, the Scout Movement has demonstrated its capability to open space for dialogue and mutual recognition, to young people of all nations, regardless of culture, religion or race. Through the adherence to it's values and principles, the Movement has shown how it jumps over obstacles and barriers, at least geographical ones."

Luc Panissod, World Scouting's acting Secretary General, sends a closing message to all participants and national organizers.

I did take the time and try out the JOTI ( Jamboree On The Internet ) for the first time.

I typed in: “Anybody here attend the WJ last summer?”

I ended up talking to several folks, but one in particular, that I remember. We stayed in Glacier and he was in Lagoon. He even had the silky Troop 211 patch still.

JOTA & JOTI

Here is something to do this weekend, if you aren't camping. If you have access to a ham radio, you can join your fellow Scouts and Scouters on the Jamboree On The Air. The Jamboree On The Internet is also available too. Kind of like the world's largest chat room filled with folks who follow similar Scouting values.

Heck, you might even make a badge swap or two!

New Scouts

We had 2 new Scouts show up and signed up tonight and they both are going camping with us to the Fall Camporee this weekend. That is Troop 12 spirit in it's full.

So now everyone is talking about recruiting and getting the award.

We are crossing over 7 Webelos on Monday. They will be great recruiters too.

I had better order several Recruiter Strips!

2015 World Jamboree

The 23rd World Jamboree is going to be in Japan. That would be a nice place to camp!

Now, if you know any current Wolf or above Cub Scouts, start spreading the word. They would be about the right age to go.

So if you are 15 now, on that trip you would be about 22 and an awesome staff member.

Something to think about.
