Clay County Mystery
I've been doing some research on the old Lonesome Pine Council and trying to figure out what counties were included. I've been told that Clay County was originally part of LPC, but if you look at this old patch from the Tomahawk Lodge, that shows a very distinct outline, Clay County is not included.

SEAL
Congratulations Don Combs SEAL candidate! Don has been selected to have the chance this summer to cruise the historic tropical waters of Galveston Bay amongst the swaying palm trees and dolphins, shrimp boats, barges, and oil rigs deep in the heart of Texas, on waters once plied by Karankawa Indians, Cabeza de Vaca, Jacques LaSalle, Bernardo de Galvez, Jean Lafitte, Sam Houston, and other adventurers, historical figures, pirates, and unsavory characters. He will sail on the Houston Ship Channel to Galveston and Bolivar Roads, one of the busiest channels in the nation. Also, a cracker jack Fourth-of-July while anchored, celebrating the last evening of the course and completion of his successful training, viewing fireworks of five different shows.

CAD System
Venture Crew 12 worked on one of the requirements for the Bronze Arts & Hobbies awards this afternoon. We visited Summit Engineering and learned about the CAD System. Michael Shepherd, who is on spring break, attended and got a business card from one of the owners for a possible job. Michael is majoring in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisville. So, Venturing can get you some awards and maybe even a job! Very cool.
Even cooler was after our visit, we visited the new local ice cream shop.
A truly great Venturing meeting!

Two Lives Of A Hero
ScoutStuff.org is offering a reprint of one my favorite books.
"Baden-Powell, The Two Lives of a Hero" is one of the best biographies on our founder ever written. Originally published in 1963 by William "Green Bar Bill" Hillcourt and Olave, Lady Baden Powell the biography tells about B-P's military career and his Scouting years. Hence the title: 2 Lives.
The cost is $48 plus shipping. It is a big book though. 447 pages. Worth every penny and more!

Special Roundtable
The Lonesome Pine District convened tonight for our monthly Roundtable meeting. Big crowd. Even some special surprise guests from Lexington. Glen and Linda Leach, Lynn Beech, and Fred Justus made the trip down the Mountain Parkway to honor one of our very own, Art Leach.
Art will be 84 in May and has been an active leader for 54 years. Vigil Honor in 1969, Silver Beaver in 1974, and attended the '64 and '69 National Jamborees. One of the greats! We presented him with a "Lifetime Achievement Award" with one of the 2010 watches. He was surprised.
Ralph Mullins also received the Whitney M. Young, Jr. Award and Dave Heintzelman was awarded Scoutmaster of the Year.
We also had time for some Roundtable discussions, but tonight was Art Leach's night and is well deserved.
